Setting Up MetaMask or Trust Wallet for CompoundX

Choosing a wallet

For first-time users, two wallets cover 95% of the experience: MetaMask (browser extension and mobile app) and Trust Wallet (mobile, Binance-affiliated). Both support BSC natively. Both are non-custodial. Both have been battle-tested by tens of millions of DeFi users.

Pick one. They function identically for our purposes.

MetaMask: setup checklist

1. Install the MetaMask extension from metamask.io. Verify the URL — phishing sites are common.
2. Create a new wallet. Write down the 12-word seed phrase on paper. Do not save it digitally. Do not photograph it.
3. Add the BSC network manually: Network Name: BNB Smart Chain, RPC URL: https://bsc-dataseed.binance.org/, Chain ID: 56, Symbol: BNB, Block Explorer: https://bscscan.com.
4. Switch to the BSC network from the dropdown.
5. Add USDT as a custom token using the BEP-20 USDT contract address (verifiable on BscScan).

Trust Wallet: setup checklist

1. Install Trust Wallet from your phone's app store. Verify the publisher is "Trust Wallet."
2. Create a new wallet. Write down the seed phrase on paper. Same rules: no screenshots, no cloud backup.
3. BSC support is built in. Switch the network filter to BNB Smart Chain.
4. USDT (BEP-20) is available out of the box. No custom token configuration needed.

Funding the wallet

Send a small amount of BNB (0.005 BNB is plenty) and the USDT you intend to deposit. Most exchanges support direct BEP-20 withdrawals. Make sure you select the BEP-20 (BSC) network on the exchange withdrawal page — not ERC-20, not TRC-20.

Security ground rules

Your seed phrase is the wallet. Anyone who has it can drain your funds permanently. CompoundX will never ask for your seed phrase. No legitimate DeFi protocol will. Treat the words on that paper like the deed to your house.
